Classroom Procedures

Entering the classroom:  Enter the classroom on time . By the time class should start, you should
have out your pencils, notebook, and completed homework (from the night before). Begin the opener question(s).

If you are tardy:  Enter quietly so that you do not disturb the class. Give your tardy pass to the teacher
and begin working right away.

End of period class dismissal:  You may not leave your seats or the room until the teacher has dismissed

Coming to attention:  Any time that the teacher raises a hand (or whistle)  and does a countdown from five to one, you
must stop talking, stop working, and direct your attention to the teacher.

Heading of papers:  At the top right hand side of all papers that you turn in, you must write your first and
last name, the date, your class name, your period, and assignment name with assignment details.

Restroom Policy: Please try to use the restroom before or after class. If you do need to use the restroom
during class, you must have permission from the teacher before you leave. If possible, please try to wait
until work time or break to ask.

When you finish early: If you finish an assignment early, you may work on a homework assignment,
study your math notes, or help another student (without allowing any copying).

If you need a pencil: You are expected to come to class prepared, but if you do not have a pencil you may
borrow one from Mr. Bevis Please return any borrowed pencils at the end of class.

Sharpening your pencil: If you need to sharpen your pencil while the teacher or a student is speaking to
the class, raise your pencil in the air until the teacher allows you to do so. During independent or group
work time, you do not need permission to sharpen your pencil.

When you have questions or need help: If you have questions while the teacher is talking, you must raise
your hand and wait to speak until the teacher calls on you. If you have a question during group or
independent work, you must first ask the people in your group or who are sitting next to you. If no one in
your group or near your seat can answer your question, you may ask the teacher.

Take responsibility for yourself and your learning so that our classroom can be an exciting place!

 Grading:
Students will be graded on their performance in the following categories; Assignments, quizzes, tests, and the semester final exam.  Assignments include all work that is to be completed from your pre-algebra textbook or supplementary material; which may be assigned for completion either in-class or out of class.  In- Class Activities include warm-up activates, Notes, and in-class projects or worksheets. Quizzes are generally short, though not always, and can be given at any time (plan on two per week).  Tests include all mid-chapter, end-of –chapter, and end-of-quarter assessments.  The Semester final exam includes only the semester final exam and will not affect your grade until the end of the semester.

Tests:                                     200 pts
Quizzes:                                 30 pts
Assignments:                          10 pts (5 for completing, 5 for accuracy of work)
***Binder:                                50 pts (Checked at the end of every quarter)

Break down of grading CATEGORies

Tests:
At the end of each chapter a test will be given covering the topics studied from that chapter.  Mid-chapter tests that cover material studied “to-date” may also be given (Called Quest and are worth 100pts).

Quizzes:
Quizzes will be given 2 -3 times a week and will cover “to-date” material.  Quizzes serve as a guide to how well you have mastered the “to-date” material.  You may retake any quiz once, during the same grading quarter. Best grade will be entered in grade book.

Assignments:
Assignments will generally be given everyday.  Assignments are due the next class period unless otherwise stated.  Assignments will be checked for completeness on the day it is due (one point will be loss per day late, up to five days)
Because Algebra is primarily for solving problems, and uncertain solutions are no better than no solution at all (and be often times worse). Exercises which do not show all necessary formulas, calculations, and steps will receive reduced or NO CREDIT (this is the mostly the case, so remember; where you can show work do it). I DETERMINE WHAT IS NECESSARY, NOT THE STUDENT.
This policy guards against several problem behaviors that cause many students to fail Algebra;
1.        Copying from the back of the book
2.        Copying from another student
3.        Overuse of a calculator

Academic Integrity and Cheating:
                Grades are based on individual performance and do not include such thing as effort and potential.  Any attempt by a student to give a false impression of their progress will be considered cheating.  The following list describes a few of the thing that I consider to be giving a false impression of your progress (the list is not exhaustive);
·         Copying out of the back of the book
·         Copying off of another student
·         Copying off of another student and call it “help”
·         Turing in someone else’s work
·         Using a calculator when one s not allowed
·         Having another student do your work for you
·         Having a non-student do your work for you and calling it “help”
The following list describes a few things that I consider to be acceptable ways of getting help (the list in not exhaustive)
·         Going back to look at the examples
·         Going back to look at previous lessons
·         Someone helping you understand the material instead of giving you answers
·         Using the internet to help you understand the material instead of giving you answers
·         Checking the PowerPoints
·         Getting help from me
·         Getting help from another teacher
·         Using the textbook web site
Students who are either caught cheating or suspected of cheating on any work will receive a O on the assignment, and the student handbook will be consulted.

Classroom guidelines:
·         You are considered tardy if you are not in the classroom and starting to work on warm-up work when the passing period has end. (your are excused with a note from office or another teacher,  ect. )
·         Leave anything with a battery, other than your calculator and computer in you locker.
·         No food or drinks (water is OK, in a clear bottle). Hard candy is also ok, until it becomes an issue
·         All work is to be in PENCIL. No credit is given if work is done in any other media
·         All work is to be in PENCIL. No credit is given if work is done in any other media
·         All work, calculations and steps must be shown. NWNC (no work = no credit) a paper with just answers will be given a zero unless I given permission.
·         Students will also be expected to follow the rules in the student handbook as well all classroom rules.
·         Be respectful of teacher and other students, even if they are not in the room
